After finalizing the plan, if you’ve decided to hire professionals, you will need to track down the right tradesperson to work on your bathroom redesign.

You will need at least one of the following:

• Builders
• Tile installers
• Plasterers
• Painters
• Electricians

Simply trying to co-ordinate this diverse group of trades-people is a challenge in itself. For example, plumbers and builders will have to complete their work before the plasterer can start, who in turn has to finish before the tiler and the painter can do their bit.

Follow these tips:

• Make sure you get a good head start
• Call various people on the phone and arrange quotes. You can speed up the process by providing wall and floor measurements to the relevant trades-people
• Once the quotes are sorted, you can talk to each tradesperson about dates
• Don’t be afraid to call trades people on a regular basis—sometimes they need cajoling
