Painting. Painting is easy to do on your own, and it can make a big difference in the look of your bathroom. You have endless options for colours to choose, and the one that's right for you depends on several factors-including the size and style of your room, the colours you like, and whether you're redesigning for yourself or to make the home more appealing to buyers. If you're planning to sell the home, be sure to choose a more neutral colour that will appeal to a wider number of people.
Replacing your old shower curtain with a sliding glass door. You don't need a pro to install a sliding glass door in your shower. Many shower doors come in kits that include instructions, and don't require professional installation. A sliding glass door can make your bathroom look more spacious. You can choose clear or frosted glass; clear glass adds more space and can look more stylish, but it also needs to be cleaned more often.
Installing shelves. Sometimes all you need is a bit more storage. If you usually have personal products scattered around your sink, it's not difficult to put up some shelves near the sink, buy some attractive containers, and keep your personal items stored and organized. It will make your bathroom look less cluttered, and your sink area more inviting. If you have limited storage space, adding shelving can give you room to store towels, soaps and shampoos, extra toilet paper, and other items as well.
Demolishing your old bathroom. If you're hiring contractors to help with a redesign project, chances are you're paying them by the hour. That can be costly, but you can save money by taking on some of the more simple projects yourself. One easy, fun project to do is demolition. If you're planning to get rid of a wall, take out your sink, or remove old tiles on the floor, you can do these things yourself and save money. Be sure to wear safety goggles and heavy gloves when performing this type of task, as sharp pieces of ceramic and flying bits of wood can be a safety hazard.
